A China é o maior credor da Ásia Central e Oriental e as instituições políticas da China encaminharam para as principais “empresas estatais (SOE na sigla em língua inglesa)”, para começarem a fazer negócios com as empresas dos países que participam no projecto, pois parece existir uma pressão política, para que este tenha sucesso. É de considerar que grandes empresas públicas com recursos enormes acumulavam aproximadamente 1 trilião de dólares nos últimos anos e representam entre 25 a 30 por cento da produção industrial da China. É crucial que as empresas públicas adoptem projectos para a Iniciativa, para sobreviverem. O plano “Uma Faixa, Uma Rota” irá enfrentar muitos desafios no futuro. O equilíbrio de poder instável em muitas áreas do mundo e a incerteza política em países considerados fulcrais e que receberão os investimentos da Iniciativa, aumentou para níveis críticos e muitos países por onde passará a “Nova Rota da Seda”, enfrentarão políticas internas instáveis e desafios de segurança. O Paquistão, Afeganistão, Síria e Turquia, estão entre os países que têm de reavaliar as suas políticas e áreas de actuação internas para fornecer a credibilidade necessária à China para os investimentos em curso.

A "Nova Rota da Seda", também conhecida como a iniciativa "Uma Faixa, Uma Rota (OBOR na sigla em língua inglesa)” ou “Iniciativa Faixa e Rota (BRI na sigla em língua inglesa)” abreviadamente designada por “Iniciativa”, é uma estratégia de desenvolvimento proposta pela China, que visa promover a cooperação económica e a ligação, principalmente, entre países euro-asiáticos.  A Iniciativa é denominada, por comparação com a "Rota da Seda", que era um caminho antigo de seis mil e quatrocentos e trinta e sete quilómetros de comprimento, que remonta à Dinastia Han Ocidental (206 aC - 220 dC) e costumava ligar as regiões da Ásia Oriental com o Médio Oriente e a Europa, tendo feito prosperar numerosas civilizações euro-asiáticas durante séculos.
